We’re spinning wheels and chasing heels at the 2022 Steam-N-Wheels Bike Race held at SeaBee Park on Ft. Phantom Lake. Experience the burn on our 48-mile competitive race, pack a punch on our 28-mile course, or break a sweat on our 11-mile ride. Cost is $35 per cyclist and the first 100 riders that register will receive a complimentary t-shirt. Packet pickup will be available on March 25th between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 633 Walnut Street or the race day at SeaBee Park beginning at 8:00 am.

*Please note: There is a potential for light construction on W. Lake Road during the race. Parks & Recreation Staff are in contact with TXDOT and are monitoring their progress as the race date becomes closer.

Packet Pick Up:


Day: March 25th

Time: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Place: Parks & Recreation Administration, 633 Walnut Street

Day of Packet Pick Up: 8:00 am at SeaBee Park


Please pick up your packet including bib number and shirt at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building located at 633 Walnut. Packets will be available starting from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on March 25th. Packets will also be distributed the morning of the race at the check-in station for your convenience. 


Aid Stations:


    There are five rest stops available throughout the race. 

  1. Rest Stop #1 (FM 600 & FM 1082)    

  2. Rest Stop #2 (FM 3368 & FM 1226)

  3. Rest Stop #3 (FM 600 & CR 337)

  4. Rest Stop #4 (Neas Rd & FM 2833)

  5. Rest Stop #5 (FM 2833 FM 1082)

      6. Finish Line/Celebration Area


Each stop will include water, Powerade, vaseline, and a first aid kit. Orange slices will be available at stations 1, 4, and the Finish line/Celebration Area. 



Race Start:


The start of the 11, 28, and 48-mile courses will all be at SeaBee Park. While you wait for the race to start you can enjoy:

  • Pre-race photo spot

 


Photos:


Look for photographers at the start line, along the course, finish line, and awards area. We will have a media backdrop available with props for pre and post-race selfies. Please tag #myabileneparksandrec to share with our team! Professional photos will be shared in an album on @MyAbileneParksandRec.

Timing & Bibs:


All cyclists will be timed via chip. The chips will be attached to the back of your bib number. Please don’t wrinkle or stuff the bib in your pocket. Attach to the front of your jersey via the supplied safety pins. All awards will be determined by using chip time. 


Results:


Race results will be available in the following ways: 

  1. On-screen at the results trailer located inside the Celebration area. 

  2. Personal printed results will be available for each cyclist at the results trailer.

  3. Online at www.abilenetx.gov and social media platforms following the completion of the race.

Spectator Areas:


To watch the cyclists without interference, but still close enough to cheer them on, please consider the following locations: 

  • 6525 West Lake Road, Abilene, Texas 79601

  • 10818  FM 600 (Fort Phantom Hill) (39.5 miles into 48-mile route)


These viewing areas allow you to park without interference with the runners or course. Please park in designated parking areas to ensure you do not create a disturbance with the cyclists. 


Celebration Area:


The finish line is located at SeaBee Park, 6525 West Lake Road, Abilene, Texas 79601

After finishing you are welcomed into the Celebration Area where you will receive water, food, and more. Food and beverages are only available for participants of Steam-N-Wheels. Items will include while supplies last: 

  • Bananas

  • Oranges

  • Chocolate Milk

  • Water & Powerade

  • Music

  • Awards

  • Sponsors SWAG

  • Photography and Selfie spots

  • Bag Drop

  • Finisher Medals


Awards:


Top participant medals will be given to the top 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place males and females for each 11, 28, and 48-mile race. (18 medals total).
