The Abilene Fire Department (AFD) provides many services to the citizens of Abilene. We are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for a response within the city limits of Abilene and are available for mutual aid responses to the surrounding communities. The AFD provides fire, medical, technical rescue, underwater recovery, and hazardous materials responses.
Staffing & Equipment
We staff each piece of frontline equipment with four personnel. Four of Abilene’s eight fire stations are staffed with an engine company while the remaining four stations have both engine and ladder companies. There are 198 civil service personnel that work across three shifts. Each shift has a battalion chief responsible for that shift. The fire department also has its own training facility. Our training field is staffed with six personnel and is responsible for providing department personnel an efficient level of knowledge and continuing education in all emergency services fields.
We are committed to continually improving our ability to make the City of Abilene as safe as possible for its citizens.
