Contest Information & Rules

Big Day of Minis Banner

If interested in participating in the Big Day of Minis Contest, please consult the information below. If you have questions, please Email Randall Minnick or call at 325-677-2474.

  • There are three (3) separate categories you may enter: Group, Kit, and Freeform. Remember, each category is open to all ages.
  • Participants are allowed to submit one (1) time in each of the three (3) categories.
  • Participants will "Sign In" with the form available for print, or on location so that it may be placed in its appropriate area for viewing and judging. You will need to include.
    • First and Last Name
    • Title of the Submission
    • Brief Description
  • All submissions will be accepted on Saturday, January 28 between 9:00AM and 3:00PM. 
  • Judging will commence at 4:00PM and winners will be announced at 5:00PM.
  • All submitted works should be collected and taken with you after the contest. Any items not picked up by 5:30PM on Friday, February 3, will become the property of the library.
  • All judging is at the discretion of our three judges and reflect their personal experience with the craft.

All submissions need to be family-friendly. Any entry in question will be reviewed by the host of the event, Randall Minnick.

Below you will find specific information for each of the three categories of the contest.

GROUP CATEGORY

  1. This category includes any series of models painted by the participant.
    1. Examples include Dungeons & Dragons party/monsters, painted model soldier squads, Warhammer units/armies, and all other items that fit the spirit of the "group" category.
  2. Minimum of 5+ models/units required.
  3. Participants will be given their choice of colored paper to represent the area they want to be judged.
  4. Participants will write down their name and title of their display on the given paper.
  5. Participants will be allowed to display any number of models for fun, but will be judged solely on the models placed on the provided colored paper.

KIT CATEGORY

  1. This category includes any modeling item that comes either pre-painted or would prefer to be judged based more on assembly and pose.
    1. Examples include Gundam models, model planes/trains/cars, and anything else that fits the spirit of the "kit" category.
  2. Entries submitted must be primarily composed by/from a single kit. The only exceptions are for minor accessories for artistic choice or expression. These accessories should not make up any substantial portion of the display.
  3. Participants will be given their choice of colored paper to include their name and title of display. The display can either be placed direct on, or behind this sheet.

FREEFORM CATEGORY

  1. This category includes units that do not fit the requirements above or if participants would like to be judged more so on overall display including the terrain or unit presentation (pose).
    1. Examples of such can include dioramas, terrain, kit-bashing, busts, larger single Warhammer pieces, and anything else that fits the spirit of the "freeform" category.
  2. Participants will be given their choice of colored paper to write down their name and title of display.
  3. Displays without a clear boundary will have a boundary provided using a square of tape to surround the given display area.

MODEL CITIZEN AWARD

  1. If you're a guest/participant at contest this day, you will also get the chance to vote for your fan favorite in which we're calling the "Model Citizen Award."

  2. Joey Bedingfield: Nationally Ranked and Recognized Warhammer competitor, local Warhammer Community Member, local Star Wars Model Community Pillar
  3. Candice Domzalski: Local Miniature Artist, Amtgard Arts and Science Member, and works on commission based figurine projects
