Mayors Hike Winter 2020

Mayor's Hike | Saturday, December 5th at 9:00am

Take an adventurous hike with Mayor Anthony Williams for our 2020 Mayor's Hike! This 3 mile hike along Cedar Creek will take place Saturday, December 5, beginning at 9:00 A.M. This is a FREE, family friendly event that is open to the public, and leashed dogs are welcome to join as well! Due to the terrain of the trail, strollers and bikes are not allowed. The hike will begin in the grassy area on 100 block of E.S. 11th Street, adjacent to the intersection of Maple and South 11th. Participants will travel north along the bank of Cedar Creek to Stevenson Park then return by the same trail. Parking will be available on South 11th street and signage will direct hikers to the designated parking area.
Some recommendations to ensure a fun-filled and safe hike:
Bring water and sunscreen along
Wear comfortable shoes; no flip flops or sandals
Dress for the weather; wear long pants, bring a jacket and a hat
Before starting any wellness program or engaging in physical activity, consult your physician.

Trout Fest 2020 | Saturday, December 5 through Tuesday, December 15

See what you can catch at Cal Young Park! This free family event takes place December 5th through the 15th, and there are different age groups and categories for everyone. All you need to do is go out to Cal Young Park with your fishing gear, catch your fish, scan the QR code that's on one of the signs at Cal Young Park, then upload your fish photo and other information to enter into the contest! Winners will be announced on December 16.

Also, be sure to share your photos on social media (Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter) with the hashtag #GottaCatchATrout for a chance to win a prize!

For those ages 17 and older, a valid Texas Fishing License is required to fish out any public body of water in Texas.

There will be limited loaner tackle available for the event. To reserve a pole, families can call (325) 692-0921 to arrange a pick up time. Families should also plan to return the poles after the event. For more information about the tackle loaner program, click here.

Abilene Outdoor Adventures 2021 Abilene Texas Cal Young Park

Abilene Outdoor Adventures | Saturday, June 5 9am-3pm

Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 5, 2021 for our 5th annual Abilene Outdoor Adventures! The event will take place at Cal Young Park (950 T&P Lane) from 9am-3pm. This free, family-friendly event provides educational and fun activities to encourage families to partake in outdoor recreation, conservation/preservation, and wellness. This takes place on Texas free fishing day, so anyone can come out and fish, even if you don't have a fishing license! There will also be angler education, wildlife identification, roping activities, and much much more!
