Fleet Maintenance
Fleet Management is dedicated to quality management and replacement of the City fleet and motorized equipment.
Fleet Management is the prime initiator and coordinator for fleet procurement, specification preparation, inventory control, accountability, policies, and innovation.
What We Do
Automotive/Truck/Heavy Equipment Repairs & Maintenance
The City owns over 700 total units of equipment including:
- Backhoes
- Brush chippers
- Bulldozers
- Crack-sealers
- Draglines
- Dump Trucks
- Earth scrapers
- High-tech police cars
- Motorcycles
- Motorgraders
- Mowers
- Pickups

Fuel and Oil Inventory Reporting, Underground Tank Maintenance
The Division is responsible for maintaining fuel and oil inventory, underground fuel tanks, pumps for fuel and oil, tanks for new oil and waste oil, and an Automated Fuel Dispensing System. Efforts are made always to comply with the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission (TNRCC) requirements and procedures.
Parts Warehouse
This store provides parts service to mechanics and to vehicle users from various divisions.
Safety Adherence
The Shop's safety program encompasses a comprehensive fire extinguisher program for the facilities and vehicles, first aid kits, workplace safety training, First Aid/CPR, spills and stormwater runoff, and equipment and vehicle safety.
Car/Truck Wash
This self-service facility is able to accommodate medium size trucks, pickups, and vehicles.
PM (Preventive Maintenance) Program
At least twice a year, all vehicles (except police cars) are rotated in the Shop for a comprehensive checkup, better known as a PM-B, to prevent more costly breakdowns and untimely repairs.
Training
Training is ensured in various areas: Diagnostic Equipment, New Engine Models, Transmission Diagnostics, Hydraulics, Vehicle Manufacturer Updates, and Trends in general equipment maintenance.
Paint & Body Shop
Manned by one employee who applies decals and numbers to vehicles, performs body, hood, and fender repairs on both metal and fiber glass. Also performs wreck repair estimates and paint jobs on all City equipment.
Service Station Operation
Service station employees provide 12 hours daily service for oil and filter changes, lube jobs, and tire repairs on all of the City's equipment, and for assistance with fueling and air.
Field Service
The Fuel Truck Mechanic delivers fuel, lubricants, and performs field PM's (preventive maintenance).
Wrecker Service
Various technicians are trained on operating the City wrecker which tows in for repair the vehicles that are stalled, wrecked, or otherwise inoperable.
Welding & Hydraulic Service
Equipment Services employs two welders assigned the tasks of performing welding repairs, fabrication of metal, outfitting new vehicles for service, and repairs of hydraulic pumps and cylinders.
Equipment Replacement
Key personnel in the division serve in the function of the selection of equipment, training of personnel, and preparation of technical specifications on all types of equipment purchased as part of a new program or as replacement for retired assets.
Warranties & Recalls
This division coordinates warranty work and recall repairs by vendors for all vehicles.
Motor Pool
Various divisions send selected personnel to training sites from time-to-time, and the motor pool is made use of to provide transportation to these trainees.
