[ARCHIVED] APD Investigating Suspected Drug Overdoses

ABILENE, TX – Abilene Police are investigating several suspected drug overdoses that have occurred in the previous six weeks.  These suspected overdoses have led to the deaths of five adult males ranging from 21 to 30 years of age.

The preliminary investigations indicate that all of the victims had likely ingested a controlled substance in a pill form, which was not prescribed by a licensed physician or filled through a pharmacy, which may have contributed to their deaths.  It is still unknown if these deaths are directly related to the consumption of the said controlled substance or due to other causes.

The Department urges members of the community that has come into possession of any controlled substance not prescribed by a licensed physician or filled through a pharmacy, to refrain from consuming these substances.  Citizens are urged to dispose of any similar substances at safe drop-off points located throughout Abilene.  Most pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens, have kiosks available for safe and anonymous disposal.

If anyone has any information that could assist in these investigations, please contact the Department’s non-emergency number at 673-8331 or Abilene Crime Stoppers at 676-TIPS (8477).
