Lib-Con will make its return to the library after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19. As we’ve gone so long since hosting this popular series, we wanted to jump on the opportunity of hosting a teaser event as soon as people started venturing out into the world more. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 9 at 3:00PM as we host a Cosplay Contest at the Mall of Abilene.
Short for “costume play,” cosplay is an activity where participants (known as cosplayers) wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character from a number of sources including anime, cartoons, comics, manga, TV, and video games. As the highlight of all of our Lib-Con events, this program always draws in the largest number of participants and audience members.
If you have a character you’d love to become, start working on your costumes so you’ll have it ready for the contest in October. For a complete list of rules and guidelines, visit our Cosplay Page online for assistance. We keep our activities family-friendly, so keep that in mind when creating your character. Then come out on Saturday, October 9 to the Mall of Abilene, and find us at the large courtyard located in front of the Women’s Dillard’s, and you’ll be able to register to participate.
We’ll have walk-ons for the younger crowd, plus competing divisions for youth, teens, and adults. Those who place in the top positions in each division will win some free swag too. We’ve seen some amazing creations over the years, and we can’t stress to emphasize that at least 50% of your costume should have been made or altered to be eligible for prizes. This means you can’t simply buy a costume off the rack and win. We want to see you put some personality into it as well.
We hope you’ll be a part of the cosplay fun at your library this October, and for additional information, feel free to contact Amanda Sasser or Ellene Cudd at 325-677-2474.
