On 02 March, 2022, at approximately 6:24 AM the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire located on the 1000 Block of South 14th Street, Abilene Texas. The arriving crews found the structure fully involved, a second alarm was quickly called due to the size of the structure and the amount of visible fire. The structure was a commercial structure which had been modified with attached residential units. The occupants of the unit where the fire is presumed to have started were not at home at the time of the fire. A second unit had one resident home at the time and he was able to evacuate without injury. The cause of the fire remains under investigation the building is a total loss, estimated value of is $80,000. The Red Cross was notified and will be assisting the occupants who were displaced.
