[ARCHIVED] Fatal Crash Investigation 1500 Grape

The Abilene Police Department Traffic Division is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of N. 15th St. and Grape. The call came in at 5:39 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, of a report of a two-vehicle crash. 

A 2012 Ford Escape was traveling northbound with a single occupant, on Grape St. when it collided with the side of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling westbound on N. 15, with two occupants. The Pontiac was crossing Grape St. when it was hit on the driver's side of the vehicle. It came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home. The driver of the Pontiac, 36-year-old Bobby Herrera of Abilene, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Judge Sparky Dean. The passenger, a 30-year-old female was transported to the hospital with injuries although they are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the Ford did not receive life-threatening injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation. Next of kin notification has been made. No citations have been issued.
