Police took custody of a 35-year-old Abilene man after a 5-hour-long stand-off. Dispatch received the call of an armed subject who had reportedly fired off at least one round at a home in the 1300 Block of Green St. in North Abilene at 12:28 p.m. Patrol Officers arrived on the scene and attempted to contact the man. He had retreated inside a home and refused to respond to police.
Crisis negotiators, SWAT, and the Bomb truck responded to help negotiate with the man to come out and speak with officers. Police secured a warrant, used tear gas, and finally the bomb truck equipment to breach and make entry into the home.
35-year-old Juan Andres Rodriquez was taken into custody by officers at 5:41 p.m. He faces a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Other charges are pending the investigation.
The Department would like to thank homeowners in the area for their cooperation with this incident. We are thankful that no injuries were sustained in taking this suspect into custody.
Respectfully,
Rick Tomlin
