Fatal Motorcycle Crash Investigation

ABILENE, TX – A two-vehicle crash on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at approximately 12:25 a.m. the Abilene Police Department was notified of a major motor vehicle collision in the 1100 block of Arnold Blvd. The crash claimed the life of a 46-year-old Abilene man who was riding a motorcycle.

A 2006 Dodge Durango pulling a flatbed trailer was heading southbound on Arnold and had slowed and moved right onto the shoulder. The motorcycle ridden by Cody Sylvest was traveling northbound on the same road, moved left into the Durango’s Lane at a high rate of speed, and struck the Durango in the front left fender and door. The Durango is believed to have been attempting to stop based on the short distance traveled after impact, and the motorcycle was redirected back to the east side of the roadway.

Next of kin notification was made. A Justice of the Peace pronounced Sylvest dead at the scene. The Abilene Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the collision.
