ABILENE, TX – A 51-year-old Abilene man is deceased after a domestic disturbance incident led to an officer-involved shooting at a south Abilene motel.
On Monday, June 20, 2022, at 5:57 a.m., police received a call from a female staying at the Super 8 motel located in the 4300 Blk. of Sayles Blvd, appearing to be in distress. Officers arrived and located the room where entry was requested. It became apparent that a disturbance was in progress, as a female was heard screaming for help and a male voice could be heard yelling.
Officers breached the door and observed a female laying on the floor, bleeding from multiple injuries to her upper body. A male was in the room standing over the female clenching a metal scrench. The male moved away from the victim as officers entered the room and began to give verbal commands. The male assumed an aggressive posture, cursed at the officers and refused to comply with commands. As the male moved toward officers, one officer discharged his Taser - which was ineffective. While another officer discharged his service weapon, striking the male. Once secured, first aid was rendered. However, the male succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The female was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and she is listed in stable condition. No officers were injured.
The name of the male is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
In accordance with administrative policies, the officers involved have been placed on Administrative leave. The incident is being investigated concurrently with the Department of Public Safety – Texas Rangers.
