ABILENE, TX – On Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 2 p.m., the Abilene Police Department will hold a ceremony at the Convention Center celebrating the graduates of Academy Class 59, Lateral Class 10L, and our newly certified Telecommunicators. We will also formally honor our most recent promotees to the rank of Sergeant – Jordan Brown, Paul Martinez, Catherine Mason, Jeremy Nell, and David Thompson.
Academy Class 59 – These twelve cadets have completed over 1,100 hours of intensive training in 29 weeks. They will be sworn in as licensed Peace Officers and will have their badges pinned during the ceremony. After graduation, they will continue their training and enter the Patrol Training Officer program, where they will work the streets of Abilene while paired with experienced Patrol Officers.
Lateral Class 10L – These three Lateral Officers are licensed, experienced Peace Officers that have joined our Department from other agencies. Our Lateral Officers attend an abbreviated academy before completing a modified version of the Patrol Training Officer program.
Telecommunicators – The Department also celebrates the graduation of three Telecommunicators. Each has completed over nine months of classroom and on-the-job training to obtain their Telecommunicator I certification.
The keynote speaker for the event is Major Scott Hlavin, Commander of the Dyess Air Force Base 7th Security Forces Squadron.
