The premiere event hosted at Lib-Con each year is the Cosplay Contest. Designed for all ages to participate, we want you to get your costumes and characters ready to be able to present to a packed audience at your Main Library (202 Cedar St.) on Saturday, October 8.
Cosplay is a form of costume play, mixed with performance art, in which participants (or cosplayers) design their own costumes to represent characters from a variety of media. Coined in 1984, cosplay plays a significant role in fan conventions, and we look forward to providing an opportunity for interested people in Abilene to be able to share their hobby with others.
As a reminder, our Cosplay Contest is a family-friendly event so we ask that your costumes be appropriate for public display and provide adequate coverage of your body. Staff will reserve the right to insist on costume modification during the registration period. The same applies to props that are used as well. For a full look at our guidelines, visit our Cosplay Page Online.
Three age divisions will be offered so your cosplay skills are matched to your peers. The registration process will be held at the library the day of the event where we will ask that you fill out information on yourself, your characters, how to say your character’s name, etc. We will also take a photo of your character during this time as a reference for judges.
When it’s time for the contest, participants will be seated together in the order in which they will be presented. When your character is called, you’ll walk up onto the stage and will have 30-seconds to present your character to a panel of judges. Once completed, we’ll direct you off stage and back to your seats.
Once everyone has walked the stage, our judges will score all contestants and then the three contestants with the highest scores in each division will receive a prize! Again, for more information about the Cosplay Contest, view our Page Online, or you may also contact Ellene Cudd or Amanda Sasser at 325-677-2474.
If you don’t wish to participate as a contestant in the Cosplay Contest, feel free to still come dressed as your favorite character during Lib-Con, as well as be a member of the audience to support those entering the contest. Don’t miss out on all of the great opportunities to take advantage of at Lib-Con this year…we can’t wait to see everyone on October 8.
