On November 18, 2022 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Abilene Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 600 block of Chapel Hill. Crews arrived to find a mobile home with smoke pushing out of the wall vents. The crews made a quick attack and were able to extinguish the fire and limit the damage to the kitchen area. There were no occupants home at the time of the incident and the Red Cross was contacted to help with the displaced occupants. The estimated damages are $10,000. The cause of the fire was found to be an unattended gas burner on the stovetop.
