On February 4, 2023 the Abilene Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 3300 block of Gays Way. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the garage. An attack was made in the garage and the fire was quickly extinguished. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the structure. The occupants were home at the time of the fire and were able to self-evacuate. The investigation determined that the cause of the fire was due to an overloaded extension cord. The estimated amount of damage is $10,000.
