“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books, and that’s kind of the same thing.”
A quote any bibliophile can relate to, but it can be difficult to keep up with that attitude without breaking the bank right? Well, you might be wrong. Running June 15-18 the Friends of the Abilene Public Library will host their Annual Book Sale at the Abilene Convention Center. Here, you will find one of the biggest used book sales around where you can indulge in your book buying fantasies without going broke in the process.
This sale is open for the public to attend, free of charge, and brings in shoppers from all over Texas. This year’s sale will run on Friday, June 16 from 10:00AM to 7:00PM, Saturday and June 17 from 10:00AM to 5:00PM. You’ll find the greatest deals on a wide selection of books at a fraction of the price. The sale will end on Sunday, June 18, running from 1:00PM to 4:00PM and will be the Bag-O-Books Sale where $6.00 will get you a bag to take with you whatever from the sale that you can fit into it.
A preview sale will be offered on Thursday, June 15 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM to current members of the Friends. If you don’t have a membership, arrive early the night of this sale and you can purchase a membership at the door. It’s your chance to get the first crack at this year’s sale.
Items from the sale are thanks to our amazing community that donates materials to the Friends throughout the year. Volunteers with the Friends sort through your donations, box them up, and store them for the sale. Once the sale has ended, any items leftover are donated to local organizations, and they start collecting materials for the next year.
All proceeds from the sale go towards benefiting your Abilene Public Library so not only are you saving money on purchases from the sale, your money is directly supporting your library. The Friends of the Library have been a huge support in helping to fund the OverDrive/Libby collection, establishing the Mockingbird Branch Library, providing support for the relocation of the South Branch Library, providing funding for the Summer Reading Club initiatives, and more.
Be sure to mark your calendar for this year’s sale, and don’t miss out on your chance to build your own personal libraries at a steal.
