The Summer Reading Clubs at your Abilene Public Library are drawing to a close this week, and what an exciting summer it has been. We appreciate everyone who has come out to support our summer programming, but there's still a ton of activities scheduled this week.
For local youth, we have our final Library Bats Puppet Show hosted at your Main Library on Monday, July 24 at 2:30PM. Youth services staff will take youth on an adventure in silly bat stories and more that fit in with the summer theme. For those wishing to get involved in STEAM events, the Mockingbird Branch will host a session on Tuesday at 10:00AM where they’ll learn about an object’s center of balance. The final joint Art Exploration at the NCCIL event will also run on that Tuesday at 2:00PM in a series that combines literature with art projects. On Wednesday at 4:30PM, the Main Library will host the final Will It Erupt series and testing whether or not apples can have a chemical reaction to cause them to change. A Read to a Dog Day session will also run at the Main Library on Thursday at 5:00PM for a final opportunity to participate in a literacy event centered around registered therapy dogs.
Activities lined up for teens include gaming fun on Monday with a Super Smash Bros. afternoon with the ACU eSports League at the South Branch at 4:30PM, and the evening Dungeons & Dragons Club at the Mockingbird Branch at 5:30PM. For those who enjoy performing for an audience, don’t miss out on showing your talent at South Branch’s Open Mic Night at 6:00PM on Tuesday. Get creative with other teens in a chill atmosphere at Mockingbird Branch’s Create Teens session at 3:00PM on Wednesday, then on Thursday, head to your South Branch at 6:00PM to test your trivia knowledge in the monthly Trivia Night series for both teens and adults.
Adults aren’t left out of the programming fun, as we have activities for them as well. Put on your dancing shoes and join the Mockingbird Branch for Beginner Dance Lessons on Tuesday at 6:00PM or show off your talent at South Branch’s Open Mic NIght at that same time. On Tuesday at 10:00AM, spend a relaxing morning at your South Branch by participating in the Coloring Club meetup. On Thursday, we have a Trivia Night at the South Branch at 6:00PM with the theme of naming that villain, followed by a Dungeons and Dragons Club meetup at the Mockingbird Branch on Saturday at 1:00PM.
View a complete list of our events online and don’t miss out on all that your library will be offering during the final week of the Summer Reading Club. Additionally, be sure to get your activity sheets submitted to your nearest branch for a chance to win some exciting gift bags in our grand prize drawings which will be announced in August. It’s been an exciting summer this year, and another thanks goes to everyone in the community who has come out to show your support for the library these past two months!
