On August 15, 2023, the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Yeomans Road. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a downstairs apartment. They made entry into the apartment and found the fire had been put out with an extinguisher. The occupant was still in the apartment and had to be helped outside by the firefighters. The investigation found that the fire was accidental caused by a cigarette to close to an oxygen delivery hose. The occupant was transported to the hospital and the estimated damages are $500.
