On September 7, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Lariat Trail. Crews arrived to find smoke and fire showing from an air conditioning unit in the window of the residence. The crews were able to quickly put the fire out and limit the fire damage to one room in the structure. There was no one home at the time of the fire and the Red Cross has been contacted to help the occupants. The fire was caused by a malfunctioning air conditioning unit and determined to be accidental. The approximate damages were $4500.
