“May the odds be ever in your favor” is a popular catchphrase made by Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games franchise created by author Suzanne Collins. It was a phrase to give “luck” to the unlucky youth who were selected to enter the Hunger Games. In honor of the release of the prequel film in the series titled “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” teens are invited to come out to try their luck on our Tribute Training obstacle course at your Main Library on Friday, November 17 at 4:30PM.
It’s been about seven years since the release of the last film in the original franchise, but we know there’s a new crop of teens that are enjoying the books and films as much as teens did during the original run. So we’re calling on fans to come out and see if you have what it takes to survive in the Hunger Games…of course without all taking out your opponents. It’s training after all.
Come out and take your turn going through an obstacle course to test your skills and prowess, then test your aim with various challenges thrown in your way. If you make it out successfully, strike a pose in our victory photo booth to show others YOU are a contender of note. Then stick around and you’ll be able to make themed crafts from the franchise including buttons and popsicle stick crossbows.
All the materials will be supplied, you just be sure to come meetup with other teens at your library and take your turn at The Hunger Games: Library Edition. For more information about the event, contact Ellene Cudd at 325-677-2474 or via email at ellene.cudd@abilenetx.gov. Plus, if you’re unfamiliar with this amazing franchise, look for the book series at your library by Suzanne Collins with “The Hunger Games,” followed by “Catching Fire,” “Mockingjay,” and the prequel to the series, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
