Allow your Abilene Public Library to become your new destination for learning about the world of art in a new monthly STEAM event aimed at youth ages 8-17 and homeschooling families. The Main Library (202 Cedar St.) will host a new monthly Art Smarts program, which starts on Monday, November 20 at 10:30AM at the library’s storyroom.
Led by youth services assistant Katye Chapman, tweens and teens with an interest in the arts will be provided with the opportunity to delve into all eras relating to the world of art. This will be achieved by not only learning about artists of the past, but also understanding the style of art in which they were known for. Then, participants will get hands-on with this style of art by creating a piece of art themselves, inspired by what they've just learned.
All materials and instruction for the Art Smarts program will be provided by the library and each month will focus on a different style of art. For this month, we’ll be getting hands-on with sculpting, but future sessions will cover collages, pointillism, printmaking, and more, extending through May 2024.
Come learn about art in this exciting new series that will not only educate youth about art, but also allow them to express themselves using art too. It’s the perfect combination for learning. Registration is not required to attend and there's no cost to participate. If you have questions regarding this new series, contact Katye Chapman at 325-677-2474 or via email at bettye.chapman@abilenetx.gov.
