[ARCHIVED] Chief Standridge Response to Coronavirus

coronavirus APD Response

This is a trying time for our nation and our community, yet we remain Abilene Strong. We come together in times of difficulty. We take care of each other, as was evidenced in our community’s response to the May 2019 tornado. To address the additional needs of our retail outlets, grocery stores, and restaurants, we have assigned uniformed officers to mobile units who will frequently stop in to check on and encourage our citizens. At the same time, we remain committed to public safety.

Where social distancing cannot be practiced, the Abilene Police Department will utilize differential police response (DPR) methods. DPR is a recognized alternative to physically dispatching officers to every call for service. This will not affect emergency responses where an immediate police presence is needed. Calls not in progress may be handled by phone. Other options include our on-line reporting. A citizen may report a crime that is not-in-progress, by clicking on the Report A Crime button on the Department’s website, www.abilenepolice.org. Also, many document requests may be obtained through our website by clicking on the Open Records button.
