UPDATE 4-3-2020: Limited staff will operate out of the Main Library (202 Cedar St., PH: 325-677-2474) only effective Monday, April 6. Staff will operate out of this location Mondays through Fridays from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. If you are in need of assistance, by phone or online, feel free to contact us at this location only. Phone calls will no longer be accepted at the South or Mockingbird Branch locations as they shut down completely due to COVID-19.
Patrons may continue to return library materials to all locations and staff will empty these drops once per day. We’ve worked so that all items currently checked out by patrons will not be due back until September 1. As a reminder, the library does not charge late fees, but if you need assistance, please feel free to contact staff at the Main Library.
Remember, you can continue to take advantage of our Digital Services during our closure to checkout eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and more, with updated instructional videos provided on how to use each of them. If you do not have a library card, feel free to Apply Online for a card. Within a business day, you’ll be provided with a library card number and PIN to use to access these services at no charge.

In an effort to proactively lessen the impact of the possible spread of COVID-19 in our community, as of Monday, March 23, all Abilene Public Library locations will be closed to the public. Staff will be on hand at each location from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday to provide phone and online reference services, and digital resources will be available to check out, as well as all the online resources via our website.
Staff is working diligently to develop online programming and tutorials for our resources that the public can use while the physical facilities are closed. Those will be made available as soon as we can take them live.
Please remember that your libraries no longer charge overdue fines for any physical materials currently checked out. However, outside materials dropoff points are available at each library location so materials can be returned in a timely fashion.
During this closure, we will not be able to accept donations of books and other materials. Please wait to bring those items until we are able to resume taking donations.
If you have questions, please call the Information Services desk at 325-676-6025.
