Details around first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in Taylor County

Coronavirus update for March 27, 2020

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the first individual to test positive for COVID-19 in Taylor County has revealed the following information:

  • The infected individual is a resident of Disability Resources, Inc., and was not recently engaged in travel outside of the city. There is also no clear source of exposure at this time.

  • Ten individuals who provided care to the infected individual are undergoing testing for COVID-19.

  • All group activities at DRI have been suspended, and residents must remain in their individual homes.

  • Based on the information revealed in this investigation, the Abilene Taylor County Public Health District is reaching out to area long term care facilities to insure proper screening and precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place.

Dyess Air Force Base has also notified the City of its first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 on base, bringing our combined positive case total to 2. The City will continue to work with Dyess in our joint effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 across our community.
