The Board of the Friends of the Abilene Public Library have made the difficult decision to postpone their 2020 Annual Book Sale until June 2021. The 31st annual sale, which would have been held on June 18-21, was determined to be too logistically difficult in this time of COVID-19, with a volunteer base predominantly in the over 65 ’danger zone.’ Other considerations included how to limit the number of people in the Exhibit Hall at one time and maintain proper social distancing and sanitation amid the thousands of books and other resources on offer.
Materials which have been so far donated for the 2020 sale will be warehoused for the 2021 sale. The Friends will NOT be accepting further donations until closer to the date of the 2021 sale, which will be at the Abilene Convention Center on June 17-20, 2021.
Friends of the Abilene Public Library President Garrett Smith says "While we hate to postpone an event that so many in our community look forward to each year, not to mention that it is our top fundraiser in support of the library, the board could not in good conscience go ahead with such a large event in these uncertain times."
The Friends will look forward to welcoming you to the Book Sale June 17-21, 2021 at the Abilene Convention Center.
