Welcome Back to Your Library!

Hours of Operation Infographic

Two locations of your Abilene Public Library are opening their doors today as we welcome our patrons back under a limited service plan. The Main Library will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 6:00PM and 9:00AM to 1:00PM on Saturday. Our South Branch will be open Monday through Saturday from 11:00AM to 6:00PM and 12:00PM to 5:00PM Sundays. Our Mockingbird Branch will remain closed to the public at this time.

Patrons will be asked to limit their access to no more than one and a half hours each day. Computer access will be limited to one hour per person, with no extensions and no exceptions. Computers will be socially distanced, so not as many machines will be available, hence the time limitations.

We want to provide our community access to resources they have not had access to during our closure, and to offer an opportunity to utilize resources that support the community’s needs during this time. Limiting resource access is done to help support as many of our community members as possible, while providing as safe an environment as possible for our members, guests, and staff.

Under our limited service plan and in accordance with the governor’s guidelines, only 25 percent of each building’s maximum occupancy will be allowed into the library at any one time. Staff will be monitoring the number of people in the building. We ask that patrons observe social distancing and hand washing/sanitizing practices while in the libraries at all times. Hand sanitizer will be provided at various service points throughout the buildings. We strongly encourage patrons to wear protective face coverings at all times while visiting our libraries. Library staff will be diligent in cleaning all high contact surfaces on a regular basis.

Library materials may be returned in any of our external drops located at each library or via the internal drops in the facility itself. For assistance, please contact any of our staff members on site or by phone or email. Materials returned to the library will be quarantined for safety before being returned to the shelf.

During this “come and go” phase of the library reopening, some services will be unavailable. At the Main Library, the second floor (other than our mezzanine where the newspapers are located) will be closed to the public. The story room, study room and Maker Space will also be closed. Portions of the basement will be closed to the public. At the South Branch, the Teen room and all other rooms will be closed to the public. If materials are requested from the closed areas, staff will retrieve them for the patron.

We will not host any in-person programs, but storytimes and craft sessions will be available online.

We hope you will use our online catalog to place holds on materials so they will be ready for your quick pick up at both locations. Our self-checkout machines will be available for you, and as with computers, will be sanitized after each use.

We are excited about opening our doors again for you, and we hope you will help us as we try to provide the great library service you are used to while keeping everyone healthy and safe. We look forward to seeing you at the library.
