ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of Academy Class 57. Six police cadets will graduate Thursday, July 23, 2020. The ceremony will be held at the Abilene Convention Center at 6 p.m. Due to the current pandemic, the ceremony will be closed to the public. Only family and Police Administrators and Academy personnel will be present.

The cadets have completed over 1-thousand hours of training in 29 weeks of intensive academic, physical, and mentally challenging training. Class 57 consists of four males and two females who will become Abilene’s newest peace officers.

The police cadets will enter their next phase of training with Police Training Officers while working the streets of Abilene. This consists of multiple steps and will take up approximately 15 weeks to complete.

Each cadet will be sworn in as a licensed peace officer and have their badges pinned during the ceremony. The keynote speaker for the event is Chief Wayne Nero of the Georgetown Police Department. It is our privilege to honor these men and women as they begin their careers as professional peace officers.

The Department will also graduate six telecommunicators who will become Abilene Police Dispatchers. Two males and four females have gone through weeks of intensive training to reach the level of First Responder Dispatchers.

The dispatchers are; Alyssa Jones, Christen Verner, Beth Brann, Cecilia Ziegenhagen, Tanner Abels, and Nick Parsons. We welcome all of our new employees to the police family.
