On September 20th, 2020 at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at Surrey Square. Crews arrived to find a house with smoke showing. A second alarm was called shortly after initial crews were dispatched allowing multiple units to respond quickly due to the possibility of fire spread and impingement to other homes which are in close proximity. The fire was contained in the attic space of the home causing extensive fire damage to the roof and attic space as well as heavy water damage within the home. All residence were home at the time of the fire and were able to exit without injury. The fire is ruled accidental and cause determined to be an open flamed torch workers were using to replace a pipe fitting. Estimated value of damage is $120,000.
