The City of Abilene’s Public Works Department has begun its annual crack sealing program, the single most important step taken to prolong the life of asphalt roadways across the city. Crews will be working to seal cracks in several sections of roadway listed here.
Crack sealing keeps moisture from entering sub-grade material below pavement. Left unsealed, moisture in the base of asphalt is what leads to roadway deterioration or failure, like potholes, and more expensive repairs.
The sealing of roadways began Monday, September 28, and will continue over the next several months, subject to weather and staffing.
Questions or concerns about crack sealing can be addressed with the City of Abilene Street Services Division at 325.676.6045.
