The United States Air Force announced Wednesday that Dyess Air Force Base is an official candidate to host the B-21 bomber. 

“Dyess has proven for decades that it can serve as a bomber training base, and we look forward to doing so in the future,” said City of Abilene Mayor, Anthony Williams.  The Military Affairs Council, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and the City of Abilene have worked diligently for several years to advocate for the B-21 in the Pentagon and Capitol Hill.  

This announcement comes after the Secretary of the Air Force announced last year that current bomber bases will remain bomber bases.  Dyess Air Force Base currently houses the B-1 bomber.  Ellsworth Air Force Base, which also houses B-1’s, and Whiteman Air Force Base, which currently houses the B-2 bomber, have also been selected as candidates for the B-21. 

Mayor Williams would like to thank U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, Congressman Jodey Arrington and the rest of the Texas Delegation for their continued advocacy and support for Dyess Air Force Base.
