Reconstruction Plans Underway for Catclaw Drive & Rebecca Lane Intersection

Post Date:01/17/2019 8:57 AM

Work is now underway to design construction plans for the reconstruction of the intersection at Catclaw Drive and Rebecca Lane in south Abilene.

The City of Abilene’s Public Works Department has moved this project up in priority due to the recurring need for repair work, and is developing a design to reconstruct the intersection of Catclaw and Rebecca Lane with concrete pavement. Concrete pavement will be much more durable, better address turning movements, and have an overall longer life-span.

“As folks who live, work, and travel in the Catclaw and Rebecca Lane area likely know, this intersection is falling apart. A heavy amount of traffic, storm water run-off, and potential shallow ground water concerns are all working against the intersection,” said
City Manager Robert Hanna. “I imagine this is a constant irritant to people, and we just want to let them know we are working to correct it. I look forward to inviting Council to a ribbon cutting in the summer of 2019 for this intersection,” continued Hanna.

At this time, City staff is working to finalize a design and begin the construction work process by late spring 2019.
