ABILENE, Texas – Overnight shelter is now available for Abilene residents displaced by this morning’s severe weather. The Salvation Army (1726 Butternut), and GV Daniels Recreation Center (541 North 8th), are available to those who have had to evacuate their home.

The City is working to accommodate the need to dispose of storm debris over the coming days. We would like to ask residents for their patience as crews handle the increase in demand for waste & debris removal.

The Abilene Brush Center at 2149 Sandy Street offers free brush and wood debris collection, and will operate with extended hours over the next week as follows:

Saturday, May 18th: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19th: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 20th through Friday, May 24th: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The generosity and support of our community has been greatly appreciated. At this point in time, donations to support the relief effort can most effectively be made to the Community Foundation of Abilene at Individuals wanting to volunteer their time should contact Mary Cooksey at 325.676.7065 or

Abilene Police will be conducting security patrols overnight and as long as is required to insure the protection of property and safety of those affected by today’s severe weather.
