  1. Saturday Matinee: "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

    October 23, 2021, 2:30 PM - 4:15 PM @ Meeting Room

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2003’s “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, based on a popular comic and starring Sean Connery, Stuart Townsend, Peta Wilson, and other familiar names. In this film, in an alternate Victorian Age world, a group of famous contemporary fantasy, science, fiction, and adventure characters team up on a secret mission. This film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of fantasy violence, language and innuendo, and has a run time of 1 hour and 50 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

  2. Pokemon Meetup

    Join us for an afternoon of gaming fun! Designed for both new and experienced players, gamers from their tweens to adults are welcome to be a part of this weekly meetup where we gather to play the Pokemon Card Game. Pokemon has something for everyone, so come out, bring your cards, and be ready to battle it out at your library. Instruction will also be available for those interested in learning how to play, and once you do, you’ll be challenging everyone else in no time.

  3. Library Chess Meet-Up

    October 25, 2021, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Basement, Makerspace

    If you’re into chess, we invite you to meetup at your Main Library on late Monday afternoons for our weekly meetup. We’ll supply chess boards for up to 20 players at a time, and if you’re new to the game and need some help with the basics, someone will be on staff to help you learn. Come challenge others in some friendly competition. All skill levels are welcome so come try out a gaming session for yourself.

  4. Dungeons & Dragons Club

    October 25, 2021, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Activity Room

    Are you looking for a place to host a Dungeons & Dragon game? Looking for other teens to play with? Come over to the Mockingbird Branch Library where, every Monday evening, our activity room will be booked for any teen to come out and play. The library will provide the three main manuals, dice, and character sheets...so if you’re a Dungeon Master, or an adventurer, feel free to join us!

    Teens are invited to join your library for some Fandom Club fun in our Teen Zone on Tuesday afternoons. This is a time where we come together to celebrate all fandoms. TV shows, comics, movies, anime, the possibilities are endless. Meetup with other fandom enthusiasts where we’ll meet with each other and socialize and even create some fandom art while playing games too. Come check out our weekly club for yourself.

    Join us for the Annual Mall-O-Ween celebration at the Mall of Abilene! Come dressed in costume to participate in the Mall’s Costume Contest for ages 0-12 beginning at 7pm. Enjoy all the games, prizes, and trick-or-treating at participating Mall of Abilene retailers, and especially at your South Branch Library. It’ll be a night of fun you won’t want to miss so we hope to see you all out there.

  7. Movie & Escape Room: "Beetlejuice"

    Your ghost with the most is back at it again, and this time he’s made a stop at your Mockingbird Branch Library. We’ll kick things off with a viewing of the hit film “Beetlejuice” starring Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, and Alec Baldwin. In this Tim Burton film, the spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out. This film is rated PG and has a run time of 1 hour and 32 minutes. Then stick around to see if you can really escape his clutches by taking on a themed Escape Room Make it through in one piece, or end up food for the sand worms...but it won’t be as simple as saying his name three times. Don’t miss your chance to participate in this interactive challenge at your library.

  9. Teens After Dark: Halloween Bash

    October 29, 2021, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Mockingbird Branch Library

    Calling all teens ages 13-17. If you’re looking for an exclusive event to attend this Halloween, we hope you’ll join us for one amazing Halloween Party at the library! Hosted after the library has closed to the public, this bash will have food, a costume contest, party games, movies, crafts, and more. Although we’d prefer everyone be in the mood by coming out in costume, dressing up will not be required. We’ll close the doors for the evening at 6:00PM, so be sure to arrive before then, with a permission slip signed by your guardian. Rides should return to pick you up no later than 10:00PM. This event is again, just for teens ages 13-17; no parents or younger siblings allowed; however, all teens will be supervised by library staff throughout the program.
