  1. Spring Break STEAM: Leaf Rubbings

    Youth are invited to join your South Branch Library for more STEAM fun activities. Just because school is out for Spring Break, that doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun with hands-on activities that will get you thinking and keep you busy. We’ll offer a different project each day of Spring Break, and they’ll be located in the children’s area of the library. At this session, we’ll be showing you how to make your own Leaf Rubbings.   2. Snap Circuits

    Come catch a great afternoon activity featuring Snap Circuits which makes learning about electronics easy and fun! In this session, youth will build a project to make a light or make a spinner fly through the air. No experience is needed and we’ll supply all the tools you’ll need.     Tweens and teens are invited to be a part of the library’s Youth Chess Club, providing a great opportunity to learn and play chess in a supportive environment. At each session, youth will get the chance to socialize, learn about the club, develop skills and techniques for better play, watch demonstrations, and then try their hand at playing friendly games with their peers.   1. Spring Break Camp

    March 10, 2020, 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ G. V. Daniels Recreation Gym

    Campers will have a party at GV Daniels Recreation Center! Through the celebration of Spring Break, there will be lots of fun activities for the kids, such as games, gym activities, outdoor adventures, field trips, provided lunches, and more! It's $65 per child, and it's open to both boys and girls ages 6-13. This camp takes place at GV Daniels Recreation Center from March 9-13 from 7am-6pm. Registration is open now, and you can register online at www.abilenetx.gov/signup!

  2. Basic Dog Manners Obedience Class

    March 10, 2020, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Cobb Recreation Center

    This class is for dogs aged 7 months and up. For your dogs safety, they must have completed all of their puppy shots prior to the first class.You will need to bring proof of shots with you the first day of class. Please bring flat or training collar and a six foot leash, as well as any treats your dog loves! Dogs do accompany owners the first day of class. You will learn how to build a relationship with your dog that will keep him eager to work with you! In this class, your dog will learn basic manners: - Down - Heeling - Manners when meeting others - Place - Recalls - Settle - Sit - Stays - Touch This class focuses on accomplishing the elements to pass the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) Test. The CGC test is offered, free of charge, to those participants who would like to test on the last day of class. Maximum of 10 dogs per class, $65 per dog.   3. Puppy Obedience Class

    March 10, 2020, 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Cobb Recreation Center

    This class is for puppies aged 4 to 6 months. For your puppy’s safety, they must have completed all of their puppy shots prior to the first class. The only exception is rabies prior to 6 months of age (as some veterinarians will not administer the rabies vaccine until 6 months). You will need to bring proof of shots with you the first day of class. In this class, you will learn training techniques that will seem like "fun and games" to your puppy but will actually be building a strong foundation of excellent manners! Your puppy will learn to: - Begin the stays - Being polite around other dogs - down - Meeting strangers - Recall exercises - Settle - Sit Your puppy will gain confidence through positive reinforcement and the gentle use of instability equipment. Please bring a flat or training collar and a six foot leash, as well as, any treats or kibble your puppy loves! Maximum of 10 dogs per class, $65 per dog. Register online at the My Parks and Recreation website.
