  1. Free Tax Assistance

    March 12, 2020, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM @ 2nd Floor, Auditorium

    e-File your taxes for free with IRS-trained volunteers from the AARP through the annual Free Tax Assistance program running February 5 through April 11 at your Main Library and Mockingbird Branch locations. Guests are helped on a first-come, first-served basis and you should bring with you your Photo ID, Social Security Card, W-2s, a blank check, and all other tax materials you’ll need from 2019. Sessions will be hosted weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10AM to 3PM at your Main Library, Fridays and Saturdays at the Mockingbird Branch (same time). Sign-up for a spot starting at 9:30AM and continue to do so until all spots are filled. For more information, contact staff at 325-676-6025 or 325-437-7323.

  2. Spring Break STEAM: Optical Illusions

    Youth are invited to join your South Branch Library for more STEAM fun activities. Just because school is out for Spring Break, that doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun with hands-on activities that will get you thinking and keep you busy. We’ll offer a different project each day of Spring Break, and they’ll be located in the children’s area of the library. At this session, we’ll be doing something very cool...showing youth how easy it is to make some cool-looking optical illusions..   3. Beginning Embroidery

    Come learn something new at your Main Library by participating in our monthly Beginning Embroidery sessions! Embroidery is a very versatile craft which includes many simple stitches that can be used to personalize towels, clothes, pillowcases etc. If it’s made of material, embroidery can embellish it and you can use these techniques to add some flair to almost anything.     If you’re into LEGO building, don’t miss the next LEGO My Library session at your Main Library. This is the time where we layout a sea of LEGO and platform and then see what youth are inspired to create within an hour. Work on a project solo, or partner up with others for a joint project, there’s no wrong way to have fun. Youth under the age of 8 should be accompanied by an adult.   8. Mockingbird Movies: "Space Jam"

    Come out to your Mockingbird Branch Library and catch a great family movie in one combining sports fun with humans and animated characters in 1996’s “Space Jam” starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny...not to mention that a sequel is in the works too. In this film, the owner of an amusement park is desperate for new attractions and decides the Looney Tune characters are perfect for the job...whether they want it or not. Bugs Bunny is forced to trick their would be captors into a competition to determine their freedom. Taking advantage of their puny and stubby legged foes, the gang selects basketball for the surest chance of winning. However, the tables are turned when they steal the talents of leading professional basketball stars to become massive basketball stars. In desperation, Bugs Bunny calls on the aid of Michael Jordan to help them have a chance at winning their freedom. This film is rated PG for some mild cartoon language and has a run time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.

    Toddler Times are a weekly storytime session aimed at youth ages 2-3, and parents. Led by children's staff at the library, these sessions will help prepare youth for longer stories in preparation for engaging in all other children's programming for older youth at the library such as Preschool Storytime, Family Fun, and Super Storytime events.
