    The Abilene Public Library and Abilene Christian University’s Alpha Kai Omega will host a children’s storytime at the Adamson Spalding Storybook Gardens located in front of the Abilene Convention Center. AKO will provide coffee and pastries for parents to enjoy, while also bringing out blankets for children to sit on while listening to great stories. Enjoy a relaxing morning listening to children’s literature in a wonderful fairy tale setting. It’ll be a great place to stop and visit while you’re out attending the Business Mercado!

This time we’re watching 1993’s “Hocus Pocus,” the quintessential Halloween pick from Disney that we show each year starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. In this seasonal favorite, a curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century. This film is rated PG for some scary sequences, and for language, and has a run time of 1 hour and 36 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need.     If you will be participating in the Cosplay Contest at the Mall of Abilene, this is the time you’ll need to register with staff. Remember, late entries will not be accepted. To register, you will need to be able to answer the following questions: What name do you want to be called on stage? What character are you cosplaying? What is the origin of your character? What is your age range (to place you in the proper division)? What parts of your costume did you make or alter (remember at least 50% of your costume must adhere to this if you want to be considered to place for prizes)?   5. Saturday Matinee: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 1992’s cult classic “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” starring Kristy Swanson in the lead role, as well as Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Luke Perry, and Hilary Swank. In this film, Buffy is a flighty teen girl who’s popular, has a great boyfriend, is a cheerleader, and loves to shop. All that comes to an end when she learns she is her generation’s destined battle of vampires. This film is rated PG-13 for comic vampire violence and drug references and has a run time of 1 hour and 26 minutes. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with the movie.

  6. Lib-Con Cosplay Contest

    Everyone is welcome to come out and show off their cosplay skills! Youth up to age 9 will participate in the cosplay parade and receive a small prize for their participation. The youth division will be open to ages 10-15 and the main contest will be open for anyone aged 16 and older. Registration starts at 1:00PM and ends at 2:00PM.
