  1. Free Tax Help

    February 27, 2021, 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM @ 2nd Floor, Auditorium

    e-File your taxes for free through the Free Tax Help program at your library. Led by IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP, the community is encouraged to take advantage of this popular service. Four sessions will be hosted each week at your Main Library, running Wednesdays through Fridays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM and Saturdays from 9:00AM to 12:30PM. Face masks will be required for all who wish to participate and social distancing will be observed. Volunteers will register guests for available slots on a first-come, first-served basis, no registrations allowed. Be sure to bring all your tax materials, W-2’s, driver’s license or Photo ID, Social Security cards of everyone listed on your return, and a blank check (or know your banking information) if receiving a refund.   3. ABCD's of Medicare

    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialists Jennifer Walter & Breanna Maichel. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need.   4. Saturday Matinee: "Hidden Figures"

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2016’s “Hidden Figures” starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae, based on a true story. In this film, it tells the story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. This film is rated PG for thematic elements and some language and has a run time of 2 hours and 7 minutes.
