The 9th annual Children's Art & Literacy Festival celebrating the summer artist on display at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature is a two and a half day event where books come to life. Enjoy fun activities nearly 20 venues in downtown Abilene as we celebrate the books and characters of Loren Long.

Over 200 quilts and more than 22 vendors will gather to celebrate the art of quilting. Attendees on Friday will be able to vote for their favorite quilts. Ribbons will be awarded Friday evening. We will raffle off our "Nine Sisters" quilt to benefit the West Central Texas Food Bank of Abilene.

Have you ever wondered what it takes for a dog to become a police dog? Come out to learn all about it from an officer with the Abilene Police Department and their K9 partner. Designed for kids of all ages, you'll also get to see a demonstration of what these police force dogs can do, plus ask questions about them too. You won't want to miss this great summer reading club activity at your library.

Come and play chess in a supportive environment. We’re inviting out youth, ages 8-18, to attend any and all meetings of the Youth Chess Club, regardless of experience or skill-level. Join us as we practice strategy, respectful competition, and have fun.

Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets, because this summer we'll be hosting movies in the park! On June 11, we'll be showing the movie Shrek (PG) at Rose Park. This is a free family event, and all the movies will start at sunset, which will be around 9pm. We hope to see you there!
