  1. City of Abilene Recreation Department - Mother & Son Dance

    Blast off into the stars for a dance that is out of this world! Sons 3-13 and moms and mother figures are welcome to join in for some dancing, food, and more! Show off your moonwalk on the dance floor from 7-9pm, doors open at 6:30pm at the Abilene Convention Center. Tickets are $12 per person, and registration opens Monday, April 19th. You can register online at www.abilenetx.gov/signup or in person by visiting Community Services on 633 Walnut Street. Registration will close Wednesday, June 23 at 5pm, and there will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the dance

  1. Art in the Park

    Kids won’t want to miss out on a fun summer series we’re calling Art in the Park, hosted at Red Bud Park. Come out and find us by the big blue flag, across from the playground area (weather permitting) and at each session we’re going to bring out a host of materials so that youth can create some awesome outdoor art. Each session will feature a different art project to make and kids are going to love it. Feel free to bring something to sit on, but don’t miss out on the outdoorsy fun!

    Want to learn how to use the various equipment in our Creation Station at the library? Need help on a craft project you’re working on? Get 1-on-1 help through the Maker Meetup program where staff will assist you based on your needs. We may not know how to do it all, but we’ll do our best to assist you. Register for a time to visit on Thursdays by calling 325-676-6025, ask for Heather Carter, or email heather.carter@abilenetx.gov. Sessions will last 30-45 minutes.

    As more people acquire smartphones, tablets, and laptops, you may find yourself needing a little help. Join us for Tech Time where the library’s tech gurus will be on hand to assist you with troubleshooting your technology issues. We may not have all the answers, but we’ll do our best to answer all your questions. Each guest will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to 25 minutes if people are waiting. For help that might take longer, you may also see about signing up for a 1-on-1 session at a different time so we may accommodate you better.

  5. Zoo Lady Visit

    Join us for the first of three visits from Joy Harsh (aka the Zoo Lady) who is the Education Curator at the Abilene Zoo and visits the library each summer to teach youth about different kinds of animals from the Abilene Zoo. If you love animals, you’ll certainly want to attend. We don’t know what she’ll be bringing, but she will bring a different set of animals to each of the branches. Learn about them at your library and then get the chance to meet them up close and personal at the end of each session. Don’t miss out on the animal fun!
