  1. ABCD's of Medicare

    If it’s time for you to sign-up for Medicare, and you don’t know where to begin, be sure to register and attend a free Medicare Class at your Abilene Public Library. Multiple sessions will be hosted each month and led by specialist Jennifer Walter. Each session will run up to 1-hour long and designed with the goal of providing seniors with the tools needed to be able to make the right decisions going into Medicare. From understanding the parts of Medicare to prescription drug plans, learning how to enroll to reviewing health plans, you’ll be sure to get all the answers you need. This time we’re watching 2016’s “Sing” with the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Withersopoon, and Seth MacFarlane. In this film, in a city of humanoid animals, a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists find that their lives will never be the same. This film is rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril, and has a run time of 1 hour and 48 minutes. Feel free to bring your own outside food and drinks to enjoy the movie.

    Catch a great movie during the South Branch Library’s Saturday Matinee event where we play great hits. At this session we’ll be showing 2020’s “Monster Hunter” starring Milla Jovovich and Ron Perlman. In this action flick, when Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. This film is based on a popular game by Capcom. It’s also rated PG-13 for sequences of creature action and violence throughout, and has a run time of 1 hour and 43 minutes. Feel free to bring your own outside food and drinks to the movie showing and enjoy.

  4. Read to a Dog Day

    If you have a child that loves dogs then we’ve got the program for you! Join your library for an interactive literacy event featuring registered therapy dogs with the Tail Waggin’ Tutors. A host of four-legged friends will be visiting the library in the afternoon and they’ll be waiting for kids to sign-up to read to them. It’s a great way to practice your reading to an audience that certainly won’t mind if you make a mistake or two. Everyone who wants a chance to read will be able to do so and we’ll have a selection of books for you to choose from. Come ready to meet our furry listeners, but we do ask that you leave your own dogs at home.
